A New Home, A New Start: Zuki’s Story

Behind every great team is a person, and behind every person is a life. At Southern Destinations, we’ve always believed that looking after our people means looking after the whole person — not just the hours between nine and five.

Zuki has been a quiet and dedicated member of our team for years. She and her young family were living in an informal settlement in one of Cape Town’s townships — an area with real safety concerns, and a home that offered little protection from the Cape’s notoriously harsh winters.

Through the Malachite Foundation, we were able to source Zuki a proper bricks-and-mortar home in a safer neighbourhood. We also made some essential improvements to ensure the property was fully weatherproof ahead of the rainy season.

The change has been remarkable — not just in circumstance, but in spirit. Zuki, always gentle and reserved, now arrives at work with an energy and lightness that speaks volumes. She doesn’t need to say much. Her smile says it all.

This is exactly why the Malachite Foundation exists: because small acts of support can change the entire trajectory of someone’s life.
