Fixing More Than a Roof: Home From Home Gets a Porch Makeover
Foster Care
When a Cape storm tore the porch roof off a Home From Home foster care house, it left a family of five children and their dedicated foster parents exposed to the elements. A loving home had suddenly become a little less safe — and considerably less comfortable.
Home From Home is a remarkable organisation that places vulnerable children into carefully selected foster families, giving them the stability and love every child deserves. The house we supported is home to a flourishing family, and the porch had become a central part of their daily life together.
The Malachite Foundation stepped in to fund the repair and renovation of the porch roof. The result is more than just a fix — it's an entirely new space. A shaded outdoor area for the children to play and study in summer, and shelter from the rain through winter. More room to live, to breathe, and to grow.
It's a small intervention with a lasting impact on the daily life of a family doing extraordinary things. Learn more about Home From Home at homefromhome.org.za.
